Faith Of A Mustard Seed

I’ve been trying to figure out what I’ve been so busy with lately… besides the normal things that keep me busy of course.  I just feel busier than normal.  And then it dawned on me…

This little beauty turned 8 months old, and has turned my little world upside down… She is now eating 3 meals a day, drinking 5 bottles a day, and when she isn’t eating,  she’s scooching full speed on her tummy getting into tons of trouble tipping over plants, chewing on cords, pulling things of shelves, eating paper.  I though our house was baby proof enough, but apparently not!  Good thing she’s so freakin’ cute!!

So today I’m showing you a project inspired by Red Letter Words, faith inspired art.  You must check out her site here, and you’ll probably fall in love with her work as much as I have!  Here is my version of the mustard seed verse, in Matthew 17:20.

This one took me a little longer than planned.  Here’s how it went:

...I found a scrap piece of wood, approximately 18 1/2 " x 20". Painted it with one coat of brown, then 1 coat of turquoise... and distressed it...

...next I used stencils, and drew all the words on sheets of paper. I colored the back with paper for my transfer, placed the words and taped them in place, traced them out... (yes, tedious. but I didn't want any crooked words this time!)

... and painted the words with my oh so handy Sharpie Poster Paint Pen... distressed the words...

and this is where I was stuck for a little while.  Something was wrong with it, and I couldn’t figure out what.  I sat it on the mantle and slowly began to realize I still had some crooked words!!  I fixed the 2 crooked words, and then found more crooked words… and finally clued in the lines of the board weren’t completely straight!  This was playing with my eyes and driving me crazy, but finally, perfection!

Now, did I mention my Christmas present??  I got to use this for the first time on this project:

Annie Sloan Soft Wax, in clear and dark!

Annie Sloan is the queen of chalk paint, which is a very coveted and very expensive paint.  I put the waxes at the very top of my Christmas wish list with the address and phone number of where to get it… and lucky me!!  My family looked like they thought I was just a wee bit crazy when they saw how excited I was about this stuff!  But at $40 a container, it’s not something I would buy for myself!

So, next step was to wax with  the clear wax and distress some more.  Clean off, then clear wax it again.

next was the dark wax... whoa, this step made me nervous! But you just buff it off, and end up with a beautiful patina...

I love, love the final feeling of the board after being waxed and buffed.  It is soooo smooth!

Do you LOVE it??  Check out the FOR SALE page for more info!
