Sunshine!!

sunshine12

The weather here lately has been AMAZING!!  A little shocking, but I have been LOVING it!!  And because of that, I am going to write this post as quick as possible… I need to get outside and play with my girls, and do a little spray painting in between!  (I know, spray painting!!  I’ve never done it before, but I have the perfect project for it, so I’m going to give it a try!)

So enjoy this:  You Are My Sunshine!!  I am loving this buttery-smooth beauty!!

You are my Sunshine!

I first painted the board in white... then added Vaseline in the areas I wanted easily distressed.... then a coat of yellow (Martha Stewart's Cornbread)... when it was dry, I gave it a sanding, and love how the sanded areas blend together so smoothly...

... I had created the "stencil" on Picnic.com, before they closed their site... I used Blockposter.com to get the sizing I wanted, and printed it out on my printer...

... I had to play with the layout a bit to get it to fit perfectly....

... I used newspaper as my transfer method... lay down paper, place stencil on top, use ball point pen and trace the words... and it transfers like....

...magic!...

I used my Sharpie Paint Pen to paint the words in.... and ta-da!

You are my Sunshine!

If you are loving it, I have this exact one on hand for you right now!  Check out my For Sale page if you are interested!

thanks so much for reading, and I hope you are having an awesome week!!

Chevron Mirror – Redo!

chevron11

That’s right! You read the title right, I redid my Chevron Mirror! This post was one of my most viewed, most complimented-on posts, and was even featured on 2 different blogs! Yet, I still didn’t like it.

This is what my Chevron Mirror (an IKEA wood framed mirror I painted, “they” call this an “Ikea-Hack”!  Transforming something from Ikea into something even better!) looked like, when I was done with it before,

Chevron Mirror *before*

I just wasn’t crazy about it.  Most of the compliments I received (and thank you SO much for all of them!!!)  included the fact that it was soft and soothing… but my problem was that wasn’t what I was going for!  To recap, this picture from Pinterest was my inspiration:

So, one evening when I just couldn’t handle it anymore, I got out my paints - I went for my blackest black and my whitest white, and painted right overtop of my last paint job.  Honestly, even I thought I was crazy, but after repainting it, and some crazy sanding, I got this,

Chevron Mirror *After*

And now I am in love with it!  What do you think???  I hope you love it as much as I do!  And I hope no ones hating me for painting over my last job!  :)

I’d love to know what you think of it!  Did I do good, or was I crazy for painting over my last job?!

Have a great day, and thanks for reading!!

Chevron Mirror

I have never been crazy about the Chevron pattern, but it is all over blogland, and doesn’t seem to be dying.  If I wasn’t so into blogs, I wouldn’t even realize there was a pattern named Chevron, and I certainly wouldn’t know what it looks like!  But when all the bloggers I read are loving something, and I just don’t, I begin to wonder… is there something wrong with me?  :)

But when I saw this on Pinterest:

I suddenly liked it on here, and was inspired to make a bit of a copycat.

In my storage of stuff, I came across a couple of those IKEA mirrors, and decided to give it a try…

I’m just not sure if I like it! I know I love the one from Pinterest much more…. what do YOU think? Like, or not like?

thanks for reading!

Amazing Grace Inspirational Wall Art

I am a huge fan of Red Letter Words, and when she created her Hymn Collection, I was inspired to give it a try.  I love old hymns and their powerful words, and at the top of my favorites is Amazing Grace.

first I created my templates on Picnik.com....
first I created my templates on Picnik.com….
…I used the Joyful Juliana font… I then used blockposter.com to enlarge my templates, and printed it off from there…
…because my pine boards I was using were 11″x18″, I needed to cut each word from my template, and fit it on my board…
transfer method
…but first I colored the backs of the sheets with pencil, for my transfer method…
graphite color paint
…after painting both boards with Graphite color paint, I let it dry and distressed the edges lightly…
how to place a template
…I then taped each word onto the board… and placed it on my mantle for a day, so I could eye whether or not I like the placing of the words…

I then used my transfer method – tracing each word with a ball point pen, the pencil underneath transfers onto the board – and painted the words with 2 coats of white paint, using my Sharpie Paint Pen.

I let the white paint dry….
sanding
…sanded it lightly…
dark wax, clear wax, Annie Sloan
…waxed it with clear and dark Annie Sloan wax….
wire hanger
…attached a wire hangar on the back…
and ta-da! :)
chalk art
…my dad said they look like blackboards written with chalk, and I agree… very cool! :)

Refinished Frame

Is it really Thursday??  this week has been a weird one for me… part of me feels like “it’s Thursday??  Where did all the other days go??”  and the other part of me is saying “it’s only Thursday??  Weekend, please come quick!”  It feels like a lot is going on, and yet nothing much at all.  Does that make any sense??  Probably not!  Just ramblings I guess!!  I think most of it is that we have celebrated Jordan’s birthday twice already, and tomorrow night will be the third time… I made the long-awaited switch over to my new url…and I’ve suddenly received a couple of custom orders for frames and signs… and I’m working on a couple of very beautiful  pieces that I can’t wait to finish!  That’s a lot for a mom of 3!  LOL!  For me anyways!  This is also my first time posting at this new site, and it’s very different…a bit intimidating, and time-consuming.  Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it soon!

I wanted to THANK each one of you for continuing to follow me and re-subscribing so quickly.  It was very affirming to receive that response! …

I would love your continued support by referring my blog and facebook page to your friends.  At the bottom of each post is also a couple of options to help you share my posts on facebook, twitter, and more…

Also, please remember the giveaway week is open till next Monday night, however, YOU MUST COMMENT and let me know you are following, in order to be entered in the giveaway.  The original post for that is here.

Plus, visiting that post will give you a chance to see my new theme… let me know what you think!  If you can’t find where to comment, you should be able to find “comments” under the post heading

I also wanted to let you know I won’t be posting quite as often as I was… it was getting to the point that I was posting 7 days a week, and I realize that I’m not nearly that interesting!  So if I was beginning to scare you off by being in your inbox too often, I assure you, I’ll back off!!  LOL!  That’s the main reason I decided not to continue the sleepy sunday blog hop linky parties I was participating in.

So now onto today’s topic… A Refinished Frame…

When hubby and I married almost 12 years ago (!) my parents gave us this,

frame "before"
“A House Blessing” frame before

You probably can’t read what it says, so here it is:

“A House Blessing

Bless this house as we come and go, Bless this house as the children grow, Bless his house as we enter in, Bless this house with love and friends.”

I love this little blessing on our home and family, but after my desk and hutch re-do in my kitchen, the brown of this frame was beginning to stand out…. so… out came my paint!!

Instead of taking the frame apart, I used newspaper and tape to protect the glass…

protecting glass

…and once again, I didn’t have the camera around, so I don’t have “during” pictures  :(      but all it took was:

  • 2 coats of white paint (for this project I just used white craft paint from the dollar store)
  • when the paint was dry I distressed with a sanding sponge
  • to age it I used a stiff art brush, and Distress ink.  … I’ve “complained” about the Distress Ink before in that I would love for it to be more 3D, to reach into the grooves better, when a lovely reader commented and suggested I use an old makeup brush!  Ah, I love people who are brighter than me!  :)   My mom had given me a stiff art brush that worked perfect for this… rub it into the Distress Ink pad, and then onto the project.
  • after this I left the frame as it, and love it!

After:

frame "after"

I apologize for the poor pictures, sometimes I am in just waayy too much of a hurry!  But what do you think??  Do you like the change??

Thanks for reading!
