Fame On Friday #12

Today I get to introduce you to someone fantastic!  Jennifer and I met through a bloggers network on facebook, and when I looked up her blog, I ended up spending A LOT of time there… this girl has super talent – but I’ll let her show you herself!

Hello New Friends! I’m thrilled to be over here for Fame On Fridays! Who doesn’t like a little bit of fame once in a while?

I’m Jennifer and I blog over at Finding My Way in Texas! I’ve been in Texas almost a year now… so I’m not as inclined to get lost… but I am still working on making it my Home. I grew up just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada! So you can only imagine how much of an adjustment its been to adapt to SMALL town Texas! But I am loving every minute of it! I got married to my handsome cowboy (and the reason I moved to Texas in the first place) back in February :) I’d love to tell you that life has been perfect since then, but, well… it never is! But its been pretty darn close :)

I started my blog about a week after I moved here. I needed a place to feel connected and to share the projects I was doing. Now I write about whatever catches my fancy. I’ve discovered that I love to sew, I have a fabric obsession and I’ve got some random talents that I would have never before had a use for! I’ve also continued to pursue some long standing passions and hobbies. I’ve been an avid photographer for several years and love capturing special moments. I’m also pretty good at crochet and can recreate almost anything I see with out a pattern. Mostly cause I can’t read patterns and have to figure it out on my own:) A lot of the things I create end up in my shop, LoneStar Lovlies, but I’ll tell you more about it in a minute.  For right now I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorite projects and creations from the past 11 months :)

random 012

One on the first and biggest projects I tackled was a HUGE rag quilt! Its still one of my favorite things ever, but that’s probably due to the fact that I LITTERALLY poured blood sweat and tears into it.

Its amazing to me what the blog world falls in love with, but this Fall Burlap Wreath I created was a big hit! I’m still getting comments and views on it! Thank you Pinterest. It was one of those spur of the moment, grab my glue gun and go to town moments that worked out really well :) I

The African Violet Hexagon Blanket and the Wool Eater Baby Blanket are 2 of my top 5 favorite things I’ve ever crocheted list.

This was a fun project I whipped up as a guest post and fell in love with! I’ve made a couple more as gifts and they’ve been a big hit! I love being randomly crafty :)

Like I said earlier… Its kind of random, but I do things that I enjoy :)

LoneStar Lovlies where a lot of my creations end up! You’ll find everything from Coffee Cozies and baby afghans to camera strap covers and mug rugs!
IF you see something you Like use Code “FAMEONFRIDAYS” for get 15% off :) There will be a bunch of new things in the shop after the 23rd and I often have deals posted on my Facebook page.

Ok… I think I’ve used up my “15 minutes”! I hope you’ll drop by Finding My Way in Texas and say Hi! I love meeting new people and making new friends :)

I’m Back!!

update11

Whew!  What an absolute wild week we had last week, I needed most of this week to recuperate!!  You ready for this??

A few weeks ago I made a new blogging friend, who lives in North Vancouver.  After emailing back and forth and getting to know each other, on Tuesday last week this amazing woman, Claudine from Condensed Love Home, packed up all her Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (which you all know I’ve been dying to try!)  and brought it all over to my place to paint with me!!  I had a child’s rocking chair that needed a little makeover, and in the 3 hours Claudine and I had together, we gave this chair 2 coats of paint, gave each other the quickest tutorials – she taught me about chalk paint, I taught her about making signs – got to know each other, picked up my sick son from school, fed the baby lunch, and barely had time to breath!  Wow.  More on my time with Claudine and Chalk Paint another day though!!

Wednesday and Thursday I finished off that rocking chair, plus a special project which I delivered yesterday… but more on that another day!

Thursday evening I put together 30 gifts for volunteers for the elementary school.  Although time-consuming, I had a ton of fun putting them together and watching the recipients receiving them the next day.

Friday this gorgeous little darling turned 1!  Wow, how did that happen?!?

Don’t you love the birthday outfit??  It insured she would get a lot of attention for her big day!!

In the morning I had to remember to deliver the 30 gifts to the school, and later in the day, the girls and I attended the Parent and Volunteer Tea, held by the school staff.  So much fun, with amazing cupcakes,

and music,

(that’s my guy 3 heads back – the best picture I could get of him :(

That evening we celebrated Elissa’s birthday with a trip to the Coldstone Creamery

(she’s looking a little anxious, because she can’t figure out why I keep taking pictures, and not giving her the ice cream!)

Pizza and a movie ended the evening, and the little birthday girl was sound asleep by 6:45!

That’s when I needed to get back to work and prepare for the big party on Sunday…

Saturday was a day I had been looking forward to for some time!!

That’s right, it was time for the Scout Handmade and Vintage Market!!  Whoohoo!!  And this was the line up waiting to get in, a half our after opening,

That was in front of me… behind me the lineup went around the building!  But wow was it worth the wait.  I had every intention of taking pictures inside of all the goodies, but my eyes just couldn’t devour what I was seeing fast enough!!  Plus, with the insane crowds, I was acting as a contortionist the whole time, trying to get in close.  But, I did get the chance to meet someone I’ve been wanting to meet for a while – Alisa from Home Sweet  Nest, and her friend who I can’t wait to get to know more, Desja from The Former Fashionista.  And boy did I blush when they were pleased to meet me, because they read my blog!  :)

The day continued with haircuts for the whole family, and an evening at the in-laws to meet up with hubby’s from-out-of-province cousin.

Then Sunday got even crazier.  Church, (where I had to read the Bible scriptures for the service, and wouldn’t you know it, it was full of some of the craziest-pronounced cities) which was followed by a Sunday School party with hotdogs, bowling and cake.  Home for a couple of hours to gather ourselves, and back to the church gym to host Elissa’s birthday party!!

(the project for the party I was working on Friday night)

She enjoyed watching me open the gifts for her :)

And also enjoyed her birthday crown!

She was a bit nervous when we put the piece of birthday cake in front of her, not sure what to do with it…

But it all ended with a very happy and very messy clap!

Monday I crashed, and suddenly it’s Thursday!  I hope you have a great one!  Thanks for reading!

PS, Happy birthday to my niece “M” today!!  xo

Pinterest Wednesday!

Yay!  I love Pinterest Wednesday (can you tell?!), and today’s topic is FOOD.  Healthy food though, friends, because I’m still trying to lose those baby pounds!!
I’m starting with this one, because I made it for lunch yesterday, and plan to make it again today!! It was very yummy. Not as yummy as a real Pina Colada of course, but enough to enjoy on a nice sunny day!

Veggies In Disguise Muffins! I love recipes like this, and this one looks super yummy. I still don’t think it would trick my kids, but I would eat them up!

Have I shown you this one before?! I wouldn’t call it healthy, but it does have apples, so we can pretend, right?? Trust me, it is delicious, and a true crowd pleaser! (still, my kids wouldn’t eat it.)

Big question for you: Is Nutella healthy, or not healthy? Did you hear they were just taken to court recently for advertising themselves as being healthy? I feed it to my kids every morning….
Here’s some Nutella popsicles for you!!

Turquoise Twins

tt13

Well it’s Thursday, and I’m feeling pumped today!! Tonight is our elementary school’s Ladies Night Fundraiser, where I am having a vendor table! With my past businesses I swore I would never have a vendor table again, but this was cheap enough, and for a good cause, and I’m excited to get my stuff out there, and see what the feedback is!

And to celebrate, I’m finally showing you a project! I know, it’s been awhile!! So I’m showing you a little favorite of mine, and I don’t think they’ll be sticking around for long… Meet the Turquoise Twins!

The Turquoise Twins!

The one on your left is a magnetic board, and the one on your right is a chicken wire bulletin board!

I actually have a pretty good collection of my how-I-did-it, so here we go!

This was them "before" and I picked them up on Half-Off day at a local thrift store for a couple of dollars each...

a couple close-ups of the frames before...

before...

after taking the frames apart, I gave them 2 coats of Wythe Blue, from Benjamin Moore.... once the paint dried, I distressed them to show some of the gold from underneath... then it was time for staining...

I had read about this technique online somewhere... I am SO sorry I don't remember where!... apply stain to the project (I used dark walnut from Minwax), and smear with a rag and baby oil! It gave a very nice stained darkness to the turquoise...

...here's a photo showing the difference... the bottom one has been stained, the top has not... very subtle, but just enough.

next, for the chicken wire frame, I used foam board as my "base" for my fabric. I bought it from the dollar store, and cut it to the size of the frame...

...placed the foamboard on the fabric I was using, and cut the fabric approximately 2 inches bigger than the foam board...

... so this is a photo with sheet metal for the magnet board... I bought a fairly large size sheet of sheet metal from Home Depot for $27, the price caught my by surprise, but oh well, I was determined, ...I put out a plea for tin snips (to cut the sheet metal) on Facebook, and thanks to friends willing to share their husband's tools :) I was set! ... To attach the fabric to both the sheet metal, and to the foam board, I just wrapped them and hot glued the back side. This project needed work gloves to keep scratches, cuts and burns at bay!...

This is the back of the foam board, with the fabric glued on. For this chicken wire project, I used the tin snips to cut the wire, a little larger then the frame. I wrapped the foam board with the chicken wire, and fitted it into the frame.

... I stapled the chicken wire to the frame with a staple gun (I felt very empowered with this project, using all these tools I've never used before!). After stapling, I trimmed the wire, then taped the edges down with masking tape...

I try to reuse as much of the original item as possible, so I used the mat from the original frame on the back, and was able to push the photo tab holders thingies down to keep it all in place.

And a couple of “after” pictures for you!

The Turquoise Twins!

I’d love to get your feedback, let me know what you think!  If you LOVE them, find them on my For Sale Page!

Thanks so much for reading!!

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall

goldmirror15

I have a few minutes to pull together a post for you today, so because I don’t have much time today, this post will be mostly pictures, instead of all “wordy” like I normally get!

I bought this mirror off a Facebook friend, unfortunately when I picked it up I realized it wasn’t in as good condition as I had hoped for, so I had a bit of a learning curve with this project.  Learning how to take a mirror apart, and put it back together again!

Well, now it looks like my before picture won’t upload.  Darn it anyways.  I did post it on my facebook page a while back, you could see it there!  Otherwise, just imagine it all gold, and falling apart a bit!

Oh, and a disclaimer, don’t look too closely at the reflections in the mirror, I took these pics while my kids were sick with the flu, so there was no house cleaning getting done!! Here’s my made-over mirror!

Elissa!!

we baby proof with elastics! :)

I hope you like!

The baby is crying, that’s my cue to go! I hope you are all having a fabulous day!

PS.  Update:  this mirror has been SOLD!  :)
