Getting Fit!

Well here it is!  My follow-up to let you know how my time with Fit With Brit is going!

I introduced my new challenge to you in my post “Goodby Easter Chocolate!”, when I had just completed my day 1 with Fit with Brit.  By blogging about my experience, I was able to receive 2 weeks free trial (and they accidentally gave me 3 weeks!  Shhh, don’t tell them ;)   )

I didn’t blog about it in the meantime, but if you follow my Facebook Page, you would have read often how Brit was kicking me into shape!

So what is this all about??  Brit, from Fit With Brit is my new online personal trainer!  this website is amazing with the plethora of videos there are to choose from, and Brit is even more amazing with her level of energy and skill.  She blows me away.  and kicks my butt!  These workouts are intense, but she does offer 3 different levels, plus modifications for all the exercises.

Why I am loving Fit With Brit:

*I love how I can do the videos through the computer.  I didn’t think this would be a pro for me at first, but it turned out it worked great.  I was able to do my workouts in any room in the house, since I work off the laptop, and I could keep my 4-year-old busy, and in front of the TV.  Because, honestly, I can’t talk at all while doing these workouts!  I need to be left alone!

*There are sooo many videos to choose from, and new ones being added all the time.  There is no way to get bored!

*She offers weekly schedules, to help you make sure you’ve hit every part of your body in the week.  I have been loving following this, as I don’t like to put much thought into my workouts!

*She is very affirming during the workouts.. I know she can’t see me, but I like to be told I’m doing a good job!  LOL!  Can you tell “words” is my “love language”?!

*The membership is CHEAP!  It costs only 12.95 a month ($13 and change if you are Canadian) and you can cancel anytime.  I consider this a great deal, as it’s obviously way cheaper than a gym membership, and much more economic than buying new videos that I am sick of after a few tries.

*Oh, and the best part, all the workouts are only 10 – 25 minutes long!  Perfect for a busy mama like me!  and for the 10 minute videos, if I feel like I can handle a little more, she offers 5  minute ab workouts, and tons of stretching videos.  And believe me, even the 10 minute videos have me sweating gross, and feeling the muscles the next day!  this woman does not go easy on you!

Were there any cons?  Sure, there were a few, but not enough to sway me away.  Here they are:

*Being that it was on the computer (BTW, there would be a way to feed this through your TV if that’s a better option for you), I couldn’t get the volume as high as I would like.  She gives so many great instructions throughout, to make sure you have the proper form, and at times I can’t hear her as well as I would like.

*Occasionally the feed would stutter, slowing down the steps a bit.  But it was actually much better this last week, so who knows what was going on there.

*The workouts are intense!  This is a good and bad thing!  I am highly competitive, so I try to keep up with her, and copy her, when really I shouldn’t, and I’ve pushed myself to hard.  Be good to yourself!  She always encourages you to slow down and modify if needed, so this past week I’ve been trying to do that more!

That’s about it for the cons.  Honest!  I truly believe if this woman can’t whip me into shape, no one can!!  I love it and don’t want to let it go, so I signed up for my membership today!  Yay!  this is one thing I am happy to be paying for!  And in the email I received after, she mentioned they will be expanding their website to include things like nutritional information and selective programs to help members reach their personal goals.  I’m excited!

It took me awhile to be convinced to try this. I see so many programs out there, it’s hard to decide what’s right for you.  Anna from My Life and Kids blogged about her experiences a lot before I took this step, and I’m so glad I did.  If you aren’t convinced, Brit offers a free 3 day trial on her website.

I haven’t been paid to write this post, I just loved it that much, and want to spread the word!  If I had lovely “before and after” pictures to show you I would, but unfortunately it didn’t make that much of a difference, but I can see my body changing!  Yay!

Let me know if you decide to give this a try, I’d love to know what you think!!

Family Frames – Before and After

frames, refinish

I remember the first time I entered my in-laws home, when I was first dating my hubby… and these pictures were the first things I saw,

Hubby in the middle, and his older brother and younger sister...

So cute!  When you see a cute picture of your current boyfriend like this, you know there could be some pretty cute kids in the future for the 2 of you!  :)

These pictures in these frames have always held spots of honor in my in-laws house…  a couple of weeks ago, my mother-in-law asked me if I could refinish the frames for her.  Here is their after shot!

Frames After!

What do you think??  I think they are pretty darned adorable!  the kids and the frames!  :)

here’s my How-I-Did-It:

First, some more before shots to give you more details...

...before...

frames, refinish

...I took the frames apart, and gave them a cleaning...

frames, refinish

...gave them each a coat of primer....

...then 2 coats of antique white.... when the paint dried, I followed with a very light distressing job...

frames, refinish

...I distressed a bit around the outer edges to show the brown under, and along the inside to show some gold...

frames, refinish

...got out my Distress Ink and a stiff artist brush...

frames, refinish

...I alternated between applying the Ink directly, and using the brush in the creases...

frames, refinish

...for a light antique finish...

frames, refinish

...for the ink, I liked the look best when I applied it then followed with a damp cloth to buff it around...

frames, refinish, glue

...some of the corners had come apart a bit from their last move, so out came the glue...

frames, refinish, clamps

...and my fabulous hubby glued and clamped them together...

...and ta-da, 24 hours later and you can't even tell they had been glued!...

Before and Afters, plus a little advent Chocolate!

So, my post yesterday was of course about my hair… and good thing I asked everyone!  Because I would have gone with #1!

But #2 had everyone’s vote, including and most importantly, my husband’s.  So Katie Holmes it was!

Here’s the most recent picture of me “before”

Now I’m not Katie Holmes, but here’s a few pictures after I got home… (we just got my 3-year-olds first hair cut a few days ago, she was very excited we now have the “same” hair cut!)

The next picture is a little dorky, but I love how all the colors pop now that there’s some darker brown in it…

Anyways, on to more important things, remember how I mentioned we rearranged our living room?  This was a very big deal for me, I’ve been waiting a long time for this… so of course some before pictures, note how closed and awkward it was…

(don’t pay attention to the kids in their pajamas… I warned them this would be going on my blog!)

Can you spot the dog?!  He blends in with our rug!

…the fire-place was completely cut off, toys were stored behind this couch…

And after…

Open!  Aahhhh!  yes, there is still a cord going across the floor.  Nudge, nudge to my big brother who needs to come over and help us fix it!

Don’t pay too much attention to any disorder you see that I may not have spotted while photographing…real life happens here.

We took our entertainment centre and instead of having them side by side like before, we stacked them – I love it!  And hubby gave me the okay to (maybe) do a makeover on it… I first have to try it on a inconspicuous piece.  I personally would love to redo the coffee table and bookshelf, but I don’t think even I have the guts to actually do it, so I haven’t even mentioned it to hubby yet!  I just really want to eliminate how many different kinds and shades of wood we have going on here.

The corner where you see baby’s jumper/ladybug is where the Christmas tree will go very soon!

I would show you some more before and afters of some other projects we have going on here, but since this post is getting a little heavy with so many photos, I’ll show you a little something I did today.  This Countdown to Christmas with Hershey Kisses was inspired by a blog post at It’s Overflowing, and she has a great tutorial here if you’d like to try.  I didn’t have a chance to take pictures during, I was trying to do it as fast as I could before my 3-year-old caught me – she caught me anyways, but I managed to negotiate with her to 1) not scream for chocolate, 2) not tell Jordan (he knows all our days secrets within 2 seconds of getting into the car after school) and in return I painted her finger and toe nails!

The wreath above the chocolate is anna’s advent Calender she made in preschool.

All dressed Up and ready to Show Off!

I’m excited to finally make this post!  The hutch and the desk have been ready and showing itself off in my kitchen for the past 3 weeks…

To remind you, this was the cheap Wal-Mart Desk “before” picture, waiting for its makeover,

The desk Before

And this was the Hutch “before”, an awesome Craigslist buy for only $25.  I had been searching for some time for a hutch that would fit perfectly in this spot, so was thrilled of course, to find this one…  Obviously though, this look would not do…

The Hutch Before

And the Reveal!  (Here is where I wish I had some photography skills.  Really, I am so bad at it… but here you are, shadows, blurs, reflections and all) – I hope you “get the picture”!

Done!

I can see in the picture above, what I need now is a fantastic wooden chair, painted green.   Hmmm, Craigslist here I come!

Woops, I still need to fix the latch on the right door.

my tea collection

I collect tea.  I get a kick out of all the types, flavors, smells, accessories… I don’t drink much tea, I love everything else about it!

look familiar??

When My hutch was finished, I found this hutch at another Canadian blogger, Recaptured Charm.  She does Beautiful work!  Although I LOVE the way she finished her hutch, I’m happy with the way my version suits our space… however, I will be following her for more inspiration!

Again…

Before

After!

Because this post isn’t long enough, and because I have freakin’ cute kids, I just have to show them off a little:

4 months old!

Cute!
