Pinterest Wednesday!

I’ve been told about a vendor opportunity in Clayburn Village in one month, and I am entertaining the idea of participating…. I’m just not sure how much I can pull off in one month, when in the meantime we will be doing renovations (a bathroom overhaul, and hopefully some new countertops for the kitchen!), a week of camping, and hubby will be away for a weekend for a guys weekend away.  (I can’t even remember the last time I had a girl’s weekend away, but anyways, that’s besides the point!)

So, for Pinterest Wednesday this week, I am showing you pins from my board, Things I Want To Make!

Wine Crate Storage! Do you love this as much as I do?? This blogger says she picks up free crates from her local wine stores – All you have to do is ask! – she says… talk about getting out of my comfort zone! But I may have to push myself! What do you think, is it worth it??

Easy peasy, I plan to do this one for sure!! I’ve actually had it in my plans for some time to make this for our office, hubby needs a visual way to keep receipts and shopping lists organized, and this would be perfect for him!

Which measuring board do you like best – number 1?

or number 2?

I think I’m personally leaning towards number 2, but I’d love to know what you think!

I might think about doing a few things with mason jars…

I love, love this tray made from a cupboard door! I may have to hit up our local Restore and find a few strays!

Well, I think that’s enough inspiration for now… I don’t want to overwhelm myself!! If you could pick a top project for me to make, what would it be??

Thanks for reading!!  I’d love to see you on Pinterest, and on Facebook!!  :)

Fame On Friday #9

sigh…. today is my baby’s first birthday.

2 months old

Of course I’m happy for her, but I am sad for me.  She is our last baby (God willing!), and she has been such a superstar of a little person, I couldn’t have prayed for a better baby (and trust me, I prayed!  With a pretty little red-head in this house needing so much attention, I needed a good baby!)  I’m not sure how we’ll be celebrating today, but we will be having a big party on Sunday!  Pictures next week!  :)

But onto today’s blogging topic…..

It’s…

Fame On Friday…because I heart my readers!!

Today’s guest is someone I think is absolutely adorable… I started following Michaela back when I began to notice her adorable personality, adorable cozies for tea cups, and her very adorable scarves… I’ve promised I will buy from her…I’m just waiting to see the perfect splurge for me!  Here she is!

Hi! My name is Michaela, I am the owner of a small shop called Buttons&YarnOHMY.

Which right now is just a small corner of the Etsy world. (http://www.etsy.com/shop/ButtonsandYarnOhMy).

I am a complete Knit –A – Holic, I almost always have a pair of needles with me and my house is bursting at the seams with skeins of yarn. I love fashion and designing knit accessories.

Along with knitting I love DIY crafts and house projects, which is how I first stumbled onto the Because I Think I Can blog. This is also my first year living on the farm and gardening; I’ve always had container gardens and been restricted to small patios and container gardens. My blog www.buttonsandyarnohmy.wordpress.com has a little bit of everything, this summer it’s mostly gardening.

A new lily from my garden that just bloomed this morning!

I also blog about a lot of my knit projects. I’m passionate about handmade and I like showing my customers that my items are truly handmade :)

Thanks so much Michaela!  It was fun having you here today!

And thanks for reading everyone!  I hope you enjoyed Michaela’s visit, and take a chance to visit her and get to know her a bit more!

Pin Me Wednesday!

So I found this pin the other day on Pinterest,

and it is now my perfect excuse for the constant state of chaos that our home is always in.  the dinner table is chaotic because I’ve been painting there again.  The craft table is out of control because the kids actually do crafts there.  (and  you may find paint-fingerprints in the oddest of places.)  There may be dirt on the kitchen floor still, because hubby was planting seeds with the kids in there (there was a rain storm going on outside, so obviously, we therefore do our gardening in the kitchen!)  Our kids play-room is again out of commission, because we are purging again.  It’s amazing how much purging needs to be done with a growing family!  I’m sure when people come over they wonder over the randomness of some things in this house, and although the chaos drives me absolutely nuts, I try to keep these 2 pins in mind…

and more cakes… check out this absolutely amazing cake. how is this made?! talent like this is beyond me.

this gorgeous refinished hutch makes me swoon. …have I told you I have been finding all sorts of amazing deals on Craigslist lately?? But I can’t buy any of them, because we don’t have the space for me to make them over :( Anyone have a garage/shop they’d like to lend to me to help me feed my obsession??

Fantastic! I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, and I love when there’s a picture out there, so I can just show my hubby instead of trying to explain it! …side note, I found FREE pallets on Craigslist today – score, right?? Well, I was driving by there yesterday on my way back from visiting family and friends… but when I got there, there was a hail storm!! I wasn’t about to be the girl all the guys were laughing at, trying to load my truck with heavy pallets, in a hail storm, with 3 kids in the truck… so I kept on driving :(

Owl Always Love You!

Okay, so when I found this on Pinterest,

Source: vinyldesignsbycj.com via Leanne on Pinterest

I knew exactly what I would be making for my Baby girl’s Valentines Gift. You’ve already seen what I made for my other 2 kids here, but since Elissa is too small for us to know her personality, she needed something a little extra special… so I made this,

baby valentine gift

"Owl Always Love You"

Isn’t it freakin’ cute?!  I think so!!  Here’s how I made it:

found a board in my stash, gave it a coat of brown, and a coat of yellow (Martha Stewarts Cornbread)...

...made my words on picnik.com, printed it out....

.. did some light sanding, and used "Distress Ink" over the whole board to give it a distressed look, cuz I was feeling kinda lazy and didn't feel like doing so much sanding!...

And this is when I couldn’t find the camera, and I feel so bad!  I hope you can understand what I did next.  I first googled different owls, and as owls are huge right now in decor, a few different choices were easy to find.

I picked one I thought would be easiest to copy.  I drew the owl out on brown craft paper, free hand.

I then cut out each part of the owl, example, the wings, the body, the eyes etc, and used those as templates for the fabric.

I still have tons of fabric left over from when I decorated my baby girl’s room, I traced the brown paper templates onto the fabrics, and cut them out.

owl theme

...placed everything on the board to see where it fit best...

...cut out the words, and placed them on to fit...

I had already coloured the back of the words in pencil, and when the words were placed on, I traced them with a pen, tranferring the words onto the board.  I painted them in black.  (To see my transfer method in a different example, see here)

...and piece by piece, I modge podged each layer of the picture on...

... I finished off the board with 3 top layers of Modge Podge, and ta-da!

Let me know what you think!  I’d love to hear from you!

A Prayer for a Niece

My version….

of my inspiration…

(source)

This is a prayer myself and all my siblings said every night before we went to bed, and we have now all passed it on to our own children (15 all together!)  So when I saw my inspiration on Pinterest, and had pulled my little 2-year-old niece’s name for Christmas, I really wanted to make this for her.

In our scraps of wood, we didn’t have the right size, so  I went with something different.  But while working on the project, the outcome just kept getting worse and worse… and this is what I ended up with this…

Totally not what I was going for.   So I changed that, into this, for our entertainment centre.

Hubby and told me Rona sells scrap pieces of wood for super cheap, so we packed up the kids and headed over there.  We searched and searched for scrap, and couldn’t find any.  I was so disappointed, as the regular cost of wood is a little too pricey to do this as a hobby…. finally though, we settled on a piece of wood, waited for the guy who was to help us to get off his dinner break, and he cut the wood for us… suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it, scrap wood!  I asked how much, he said Free!  Whoohoo!  He even cut it up for us for free!  We walked out of there with arm loads of wood, I was pumped!!

When we got home, I sat in front of the computer, and copied my inspiration line for line.  This feels like plagiarism to me… but everyone’s doing it…

So with the perfect shaped wood, some pink and white paint, some sanding, a little distressing and some glaze, I had a sweet little Christmas gift for a sweet little niece!

Thanks for reading!
