Bella, the Antique Planter Chair

antique chair made into a planter chair! Because (I think) I Can blog

First of all, I know it’s Wednesday, when I usually do Pinterest Wednesday, but at 8:00 last night I thought I’d write up Thursday’s post first, as it would take longer…. little did I know 2 1/2 hours later I would finally be done.  Seriously, I am having big problems with this blog.  Don’t know where the problems are coming from, but it’s frustrating… so today you are getting tomorrow’s post instead!

So, how are you all doing?!  First, I wanted to share something adorable with you… yesterday I had a little time to do something special with the kids, so we headed out to the zoo.  Anna loves the porcupines as much as I do… check out this picture,

Anna specifically brought a Strawberry Shortcake book, to read to the porcupines! The porcupines weren’t outside, but were in their barn. I convinced her they would be able to hear her through the glass window, so she “read them to sleep”. It’s moments like these she melts my heart. She is so thoughtful and full of love.

Now,
When I found this beauty on Craigslist, I just about jumped out of my seat. I forwarded the ad to the hubby, got the okay, jumped in the car and headed out. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this beauty!!

Gorgeous, right?! Can you see it?

That’s right!!  Pulling off the leather, I found stinky, dusty hay!  I’ve seen this on other blogs all the time, and this time it was my turn!

Of course, this project had me so excited, I forgot to take pictures of the process!  What it entailed…

~ taking all the upholstery, hay, and upholstery nails off
~getting hubby to do the annoying and frustrating job of chiseling off the top of the seat, and then sawing a square hole in the seat, large enough to hold a 10″ potted plant
~giving the chair a good sanding and cleaning
~one coat of ‘heirloom white’ spray paint {one coat only because I ran out of spray paint and didn’t have a car to get more! It was my goal to have this chair seriously distressed with tons of the wood showing through, so I decided to take my chance and go straight to sanding}
~Sanding, sanding, sanding. And I LOVE the way it turned out!!
~3 coats of polyurethane protection spray.
~shopping for the perfect plant….
and ta-da!

What do you think??  I’m so in love with it.  I have wanted to make something like this for quite some time, and love that I did.  and that I love it ;)

Pin Me Wednesday!

So I found this pin the other day on Pinterest,

and it is now my perfect excuse for the constant state of chaos that our home is always in.  the dinner table is chaotic because I’ve been painting there again.  The craft table is out of control because the kids actually do crafts there.  (and  you may find paint-fingerprints in the oddest of places.)  There may be dirt on the kitchen floor still, because hubby was planting seeds with the kids in there (there was a rain storm going on outside, so obviously, we therefore do our gardening in the kitchen!)  Our kids play-room is again out of commission, because we are purging again.  It’s amazing how much purging needs to be done with a growing family!  I’m sure when people come over they wonder over the randomness of some things in this house, and although the chaos drives me absolutely nuts, I try to keep these 2 pins in mind…

I love wreaths, and Easter wreaths are always so bright and cheery… something we need more of around here with the absolutely depressing weather we’ve been having here lately!

and more cakes… check out this absolutely amazing cake. how is this made?! talent like this is beyond me.

this gorgeous refinished hutch makes me swoon. …have I told you I have been finding all sorts of amazing deals on Craigslist lately?? But I can’t buy any of them, because we don’t have the space for me to make them over :( Anyone have a garage/shop they’d like to lend to me to help me feed my obsession??

Fantastic! I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, and I love when there’s a picture out there, so I can just show my hubby instead of trying to explain it! …side note, I found FREE pallets on Craigslist today – score, right?? Well, I was driving by there yesterday on my way back from visiting family and friends… but when I got there, there was a hail storm!! I wasn’t about to be the girl all the guys were laughing at, trying to load my truck with heavy pallets, in a hail storm, with 3 kids in the truck… so I kept on driving :(

Spring Break Day #1

custom order signs

I’m one of those moms.  I never was until the past year or so… I wish I wasn’t… don’t tell my kids…

I used to LOVE spring break and other holidays when the kids were home from school.  But over the past year or so, I have found that I just can’t fulfill my oldest child’s needs when he is home.  When he was the only child, I had a blast with him.  When we had 2 kids, it was manageable.  Now with 3, my poor Jordan is bored to death.  And the weather isn’t helping.  The weather doesn’t know it’s supposed to be spring.  So we are stuck indoors.

And you may have noticed, I am spoiled.  I am a stay-at-home mom, with a husband who works from home 3 out of his 5 work days a week, and although we can’t afford much, we have a wonderful quality of life.  I get to do the things that make me happy, like writing this blog and doing all the fun stuff that I get to write about.  I will admit, in the meantime, I have become somewhat selfish.  I am not proud of it.  I am used to having the schedule I want, workout when I want, clean when I want, craft when I want…. yes, I am usually pretty homebound doing all those things around my children’s schedules, but I kind of like it that way.

I really do hope to have fun with the kids this spring break, and we all know Pinterest has tons of inspiration for things to do with the kids, so I’m hoping to check a lot of those off the list these next 2 weeks.  I am wild about my children, and love the times their faces glow with happiness, but the inside of my head can get a little loud at times, and so I need to get a few “to-do’s” out-of-the-way before the fun comes.

So today we worked on picking apart Jordan’s bedroom (have a mentioned he’s a hoarder?!)

cleaning boy's bedroom

plus it was laundry day,

laundry day

my first load of the day....about 7 more have been added on to this....after this post I will go fold and watch The Bachelor!!

I listed a whole bunch of stuff on Craigslist… bye-bye baby stuff :( bye-bye old appliances! (yes! we finally splurged and bought a new dishwasher and stove! Whoohoo!)

stove for sale

my brest friends nursing pillow

Tomorrow I need to finish up some custom orders…

custom order signs

Figure out how to create a code for the button I created for my blog (anyone know??)

blog button, Because I think I Can

And then hopefully the voices in my head can quiet down, and I can get to having some fun!

What do you like to do for fun with your kids??

What was I Thinking?!

Last week I found a desk on Craigslist for only $20.  I was immediately taken with this desk.  It’s from the 1940′s with a cool design.  So I contacted the guy, he got back to me the next day with a very brief and uninformative note, and I didn’t hear from him again.  So I slightly harassed him with emails, insisting on my interest, because his ad mentioned he would be having an estate sale on Sunday… I didn’t miss want to miss out!

Can you see the potential? I can!

But when days passed and I didn’t hear back from him, I decided it must not be meant to be…. until he phoned me Friday night.  So the next day we headed out there, bought it immediately, and took it back home.

When we brought it inside, I realized this is how much my husband loves me…  he had noticed certain things that I hadn’t:  the drawer fronts are all different and are all coming off, all of the knobs are different, the desk is HUGE, and it was full of many spider nests….ewwww!  So I had to do cleanup immediately, to make sure we weren’t adding any new family members to our home… I’m pretty sure I vacuumed up a few generations of spiders!

on its side, waiting for a cleaning

can you see the nests?!

We really don’t have the space for me to do these projects, I don’t know why I get these crazy ideas in my head… I can’t stand a mess in the house, but right now we have this huge beast taking up our kids play room, and a table upstairs in the middle of the living room waiting for the varnish to finish curing, crafts all over the dinner table, and dishes all over the kitchen.  Oh, and piles of laundry to be folded….

I guess I should get off the computer and start cleaning house!

All dressed Up and ready to Show Off!

I’m excited to finally make this post!  The hutch and the desk have been ready and showing itself off in my kitchen for the past 3 weeks…

To remind you, this was the cheap Wal-Mart Desk “before” picture, waiting for its makeover,

The desk Before

And this was the Hutch “before”, an awesome Craigslist buy for only $25.  I had been searching for some time for a hutch that would fit perfectly in this spot, so was thrilled of course, to find this one…  Obviously though, this look would not do…

The Hutch Before

And the Reveal!  (Here is where I wish I had some photography skills.  Really, I am so bad at it… but here you are, shadows, blurs, reflections and all) – I hope you “get the picture”!

Done!

I can see in the picture above, what I need now is a fantastic wooden chair, painted green.   Hmmm, Craigslist here I come!

Woops, I still need to fix the latch on the right door.

my tea collection

I collect tea.  I get a kick out of all the types, flavors, smells, accessories… I don’t drink much tea, I love everything else about it!

look familiar??

When My hutch was finished, I found this hutch at another Canadian blogger, Recaptured Charm.  She does Beautiful work!  Although I LOVE the way she finished her hutch, I’m happy with the way my version suits our space… however, I will be following her for more inspiration!

Again…

After!

Because this post isn’t long enough, and because I have freakin’ cute kids, I just have to show them off a little:
