Pinterest Wednesday!!

Keep Calm…

I made a Keep Calm sign, but I’m going to share that with you another day. I loved it sooo much, and it sold immediately, and I miss it!! I will have to make myself one! But today’s post is dedicated to one of my best friends… I spent the day with her yesterday, attempting to help her repaint and spray paint some of her furniture for staging her home (this woman has 3 kids ages 3 and under, and her and her hubby are cleaning up their place and listing it for sale. She is my current hero!!) But FYI, spray painting in the breeze doesn’t work. A waste of paint!!

You have probably also seen many of these Keep Calm signs, but one lovely pinterest friend of mine just pinned these ones, and I had fun checking them out… so I hope you have fun too!!

Fame On Fridays, Because I heart My Readers!

First, I’d like to announce the winner of last week’s Fame on Fridays GIVEAWAY from Raj at Pink Chai Style…  the winner is…. JUNO!  with her comment:

It is hard to say what the favorite item in my closet is because I don’t fit into most of it at the moment.  I guess at this time my favorite item is my maternity pants (black) but I am hoping to get rid of them as soon as possible.  My favorite item I want to get into is my Brown linen skirt from Banana Republic.  I love the way it fit and flowed.

Congrats Juno, and you will receive your new e-book in your email box this soon!

Today’s reader feature:  Stacey from Embracing Change

I am so excited about today’s guest feature!!  I have been a big fan of Stacey’s for a while now, and follow both of her blogs.  She has amazing talent, and a very busy life!  Take it away Stacey!

My name is Stacey and my blog home is Embracing Change.  You can find my blog at http://staceyembracingchange.blogspot.com.

I have been blogging since November 2010 after my husband told me I should start a blog.  I wonder if he is sorry now as it has become my hobby!  Blogging is labor-intensive and time-consuming, but I love it!  My passion is for thrifting and recreating furniture.  I also craft and create, but making over old ugly pieces of furniture is my true love.  I enjoy taking the old and making it new!  I enjoy decorating and home decor as well.  First and foremost, I am a Christian.  I work full-time as both a pastor’s wife and as director of a large day care center director at our church.  I attended Millersville University and earned my master’s degree in clinical psychology and have a background in working with children in the field of mental health and counseling.  I worked in this field 10 years until the Lord directed me into my current job.

I have two beautiful, creative girls as well – Emma is 7 and Ana is 4.  I also have an awesome husband named Chris.  He is an amazing man! I am blessed beyond measure. I currently live in Northeast PA above Scranton - I call it the “frozen tundra.”   I am busy all the time and struggle at times to find time to do what I love, but I always seem to make the time.  Isn’t that what passion is all about?  I am passionate for painting, decorating and creating.  It is my therapy and my outlet.  In fact, my passion for creating and crafting has led me to begin a new business endeavor with my friend Megan who has similar interests. Our business is called The Blessed Nest and we are in the beginning stages.  You can find us here: http://blessednesters.blogspot.com.  We create home decor and recreate furniture.  We LOVE what we do and wish we had more time although we both know we must keep our full-time jobs! It is a great deal of fun for sure!

I also host a linky party weekly on Thursdays called Creative Inspirations!  I would love if you came by to see all the fabulous projects or even link something up yourself!  And a special thank you to Leanne for having me here!  I am very honored!

Meet A Table Named Abby

That’s right, I am naming my furniture!  Abby, (short for Abigail) is named Abby because she is strong, beautiful and stubborn, which reminds me of the Abigail in the Bible.

Abby is Gorgeous!

I picked up Abby off of Craigslist for an awesome deal.  When I first picked her up, my plan was to use her as a craft table for my kids.

Abby "Before"

This is Abby’s before picture.  The more I looked at Abby and tried to decide what to do with her, the more I noticed her beauty.  She is an antique table, and I saw similar tables, unfinished, at antique stores for $300.oo  I decided I wanted Abby to be beautiful… and not a craft table anymore.

Well, Abby didn’t make things easy for me.

I first sanded her like crazy.  She had a varnish on her that needed to be roughed up, and her top was in pretty rough shape.

After priming her legs, I painted them with a creamy white that I had used on Anna’s furniture in the past.

Then came my first experience with staining.

It was not a good experience.

The first coat took okay, but not as solid as I had hoped for.  The second coat completely bubbled, and was sticky and tacky.

So I had my first experience with stripping.  That’s not fun either.

I stripped and sanded again, and gave it another try.  Again, the first coat of stain was okay.  The second… began to bubble.  This probably sounds silly, but after being an esthetician for 8 years, I knew what was going on.  When nail polish does this, it means the first coat did not dry enough for the second to be applied, plus it was raining and cold out… I didn’t want to admit it, but I would have to wait…  I sanded down the second coat and waited for a sunny day.  It took weeks.  In the meantime I distressed and glazed her legs.  …Finally I could drag it outside and try again.  All the other times I had applied he stain with a paint brush, this time I used a rag.  I enjoyed this much more…  Here is how it turned out…

Abby "After"

Isn’t she gorgeous?!  She turned out very different than I had imagined, but I love her rustic outcome.  And because I love her so much, I am selling her.  She deserves so much better than the abuse she would receive from my kids.  The link on Craigslist will be at the bottom… but for now, enjoy her model shots!

If you are local, and interested in her, let me know!  :)

(Update, January 2012… no longer for sale.  My family fell in love with it, we decided to keep it! To see what Abby’s doing now, visit here and here!)
