Chevron Mirror – Redo!

chevron11

That’s right! You read the title right, I redid my Chevron Mirror! This post was one of my most viewed, most complimented-on posts, and was even featured on 2 different blogs! Yet, I still didn’t like it.

This is what my Chevron Mirror (an IKEA wood framed mirror I painted, “they” call this an “Ikea-Hack”!  Transforming something from Ikea into something even better!) looked like, when I was done with it before,

Chevron Mirror *before*

I just wasn’t crazy about it.  Most of the compliments I received (and thank you SO much for all of them!!!)  included the fact that it was soft and soothing… but my problem was that wasn’t what I was going for!  To recap, this picture from Pinterest was my inspiration:

So, one evening when I just couldn’t handle it anymore, I got out my paints - I went for my blackest black and my whitest white, and painted right overtop of my last paint job.  Honestly, even I thought I was crazy, but after repainting it, and some crazy sanding, I got this,

Chevron Mirror *After*

And now I am in love with it!  What do you think???  I hope you love it as much as I do!  And I hope no ones hating me for painting over my last job!  :)

I’d love to know what you think of it!  Did I do good, or was I crazy for painting over my last job?!

Have a great day, and thanks for reading!!

Chevron Mirror

I have never been crazy about the Chevron pattern, but it is all over blogland, and doesn’t seem to be dying.  If I wasn’t so into blogs, I wouldn’t even realize there was a pattern named Chevron, and I certainly wouldn’t know what it looks like!  But when all the bloggers I read are loving something, and I just don’t, I begin to wonder… is there something wrong with me?  :)

But when I saw this on Pinterest:

I suddenly liked it on here, and was inspired to make a bit of a copycat.

In my storage of stuff, I came across a couple of those IKEA mirrors, and decided to give it a try…

I’m just not sure if I like it! I know I love the one from Pinterest much more…. what do YOU think? Like, or not like?

An Easy Solution…

We have two pieces of art hanging in our living room, and I absolutely love them… however, they do not match the Christmas decor!

A custom piece made for me by my friend Taneane at Taneane Twele Photography

and the other is a picture from IKEA,

They are both very spring-like, which is why I love them, but with the season change, these photos needed a change…  I was discussing  this with hubby (voicing my needs for a large house with a huge basement so I can change things up with the change of seasons and have a great place to store everything…) but the next day my friend helped me come up with an easier – and  cheaper – solution.

This is something probably many of you already do, but for me it was an ‘Aha!’  Moment.

Wrap them!

And now that the rest of the Christmas decor is up, it’s all starting to feel a lot like Christmas around here!

*New* Magazine Holders

This is something I did even before I did my Desk and Hutch Makeover.  I had been everywhere looking for colorful and pretty magazine holders for the desk in our kitchen, when I realized… duh!  And I turned 2 of these:

Into this:

It was a very simple decoupage project.  Here’s how it worked out:

8-year-old magazine holders from IKEA

Cut scrapbook paper to the size of the folder (I get my scrapbooking paper from HomeSense - they often have the huge books there that would cost $29.99 at Michael's for only $5.99. So I stock up when I find ones I like!

paint decoupage onto the folder

press on and smooth out the scrapbook paper, and I hot-glued ribbon to the edges where the paper didn't reach. I also added tags, one labeled for me, and one for the kids

decoupage overtop

and Ta-Da!

Kitchen Hutch – Gorgeous!

Yes, I must brag, my new Kitchen Hutch (that I got for a steal on Craigslist for only $25!!) is turning out Gorgeous!!  It’s my first “big” project so far, and so far I am loving it!!  Started with the distressing last night (messy!) …not sharing any pics yet, I’m having trouble getting photos onto the computer.  Instead I’m going to share a picture of Lemonade in Mason Jars, I found on Liz Marie’s Blog … love this idea.
