Fame On Friday #15

Whew! Well, we are back from vacation! I don’t know what made em think any part of that would be relaxing but we did manage to have fun! Unfortunately Anna was out of sorts the whole time and needed a lot of negotiation and deep breathing on our part, but through it all we got lots of sun, swimming, bug catching, and even lots of shopping! the perfect little getaway! But being back home means jumping right back into the craziness of our lives – hubby is grouting our new tile in our bathroom, and I am doing laundry of course, and painting like a mad man, trying to get ready for Sunday!! I’ll post the market again of Facebook soon, so watch out for that! I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you there!

I thank you for all sticking it out with me, while I’ve been sick and now away!

I am thankful Melanna is here today for our Fame On Friday!! I hope to post again on Monday or Tuesday, to let you know how the weekend went!! Take it away Melanna!!
My name is Melanna and I blog over at Rhapsody of Cacophony.

[Melanna+arabesque+profile.JPG]

It’s my little piece of the internet world where I share all about the crazy that is my life. I “met” Leanne through a Facebook group for bloggers and very quickly became a fan of her blog. And since I live “next door” to her in Alberta, Canada I feel we have lots in common. Thanks for having me here today, Leanne!

I started blogging when my list of potential crafty and party projects got too long and I needed something to spur me on to get things done. (click on the pictures if you want to see that post)

I even took on scary things like trying out a sewing machine.

Turns out it’s not so scary. It even got obsessive for a while there (it probably ranks in my top two mediums for crafting and creating). I think I spent a solid 2 months this past spring only sewing! I even managed to make a tutorial for this dress:

My sweet husband got me a Silhouette for Christmas one year and a whole new obsession of crafting began! And I haven’t even moved past using it for paper.

When I was 6 my mom got a friend to put together a music themed birthday party for me. I have never forgotten it (or the 3D grand piano cake!). Since having kids I’ve gotten a little party obsessed and plan their birthdays all year long. So throughout my blog you’ll find the growing collection of parties I’ve put on for them (another one will be posted about next week since it’s happening tomorrow!).  These are just a few:

Fancy Nancy

Sunday Comics

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

My favourite part of parties? Making the cake!

Sometimes I’ll throw in a recipe (when I remember to take pictures!), but mostly it’s all just the every day happenings of our life.

And of course since I’m a mom these two find their way into many of my posts.

I’d love to meet you, so I hope you’ll stop by and say hello!

Isn’t she a.m.a.z.i.n.g.?!?!  Thanks Melanna!!  xoxo!

And thanks everyoine for reading!!

Coming Back Slowly

Thank you all so, so, much for all your loving comments and notes after my last post.  The day after I wrote it, I was able to get a hold of my doctor, who was able to get me in for the blood patch that same day.  It started with having to wait, sitting up (which was excruciating!) for about 5 hours before they could finally do the procedure, but at least it was done!

Apparently blood patches are uncommon  in our hospital… every time I was wheeled to a new room, I could hear the new nurse whisper to the last one ”what is a blood patch?!”  I began praying the performing doctor would at least know!!  Finally a nurse admitted, she was the only one who had every witnessed the only other blood patch that had been done there, and the doctor was the same doctor that had done the first one!!  Okay, that made me feel a wee bit better!!

The blood patch felt just as gross as I had expected it to…  the doctor first put a local anesthetic in the original needle insertion from the lumbar puncture, and then inserted another needle.  She then took blood out of my arm… which I was told was really no more than 2 blood vials full, however, the taking so took soooo long, I began to get very woozy… she then took the blood and inserted it into my back.  This was to cause a blood clot, which would hopefully stop the spinal fluid from leaking.

After being on watch for 45 minutes in the operating room, I was brought to Day Surgery Recovery.  Here they raised me an inch at a time every 20 minutes, to see how my body would handle the transition.  I was thrilled at the end to find the excruciating pain was gone!!

Since then, it has taken my head some time to recover.  I still have quite a bit of residual pain, and I’ll be trying to fix some of that with massage therapy and chiropractic work.  Otherwise I’m still waiting for an MRI appointment, and I’ll be having a followup appointment with my neurologist in a few weeks.

Other than that I’m doing my best to take it easy, plus catching up on some painting (still planning on being a vendor at the Old Clayburn Day on July 15th!) time with the girls (I dropped off Jordan at a week-long camp yesterday!  -Eeeeks!), and hubby is installing a new bathtub!!!  Hooray!  ~so I have not been bothering much with house keeping!!

Thank you again for the love and prayers!!!  You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

A Gift For Under $5

gift for under $5!

Oh, wordpress….  really, I had added the second picture to this post, but for some reason, WordPress like to delete 1/2 the post, 1/2 the time.  Exhausting!!!  Here it is again for you!

A few weeks ago when the principal at our elementary school came to me asking if I would be able to come up with 30 gifts for $5 each or less, on the outside I agreed happily, but in the inside, I was freaking out a little!  $5 or less!!  How do I pull this off?!

Hubby took charge of the kids, and I went hunting to the local dollar stores, and gift stores, camera in hand, taking pictures of anything I found had possibilities.  I emailed off some ideas to the principal, and she responded with her choice.  I had so much fun putting these together!

I don’t have any during pictures, and only 2 shots of after pictures… for some reason I thought I would have more time for picture taking, and then “being busy” got in the way!!  But here’s the breakdown for you!

I did my shopping at the Dollarama, and bought:

Glass candle holder bowls:  $2 each

River rocks, 1 bag per bowl: $1 per bag

2 boxes of smooth black rocks:  $1 per box

succulents found at a local plant nursery: 99 cents each

white sharpie paint pen:  already had it!

First, I painted 30 of the black rocks with the word “Thank You”  using my Sharpie Paint Pen.

My original plan was to plant the succulents in the bowl, but hubby and I agreed it would be best not to… I didn’t want to kill half of them!  So I simply filled each bowl 1/2 way with river rock, placed the succulent in it’s container, in between all the rocks, and filled in the rest of the space with more river rock.  I propped the Thank You rock into each bowl on the prettiest side of the bowl.  Easy Peasy, and a hit, too!

Thanks so much for reading!!!  (and bearing with me when the blog site doesn’t work so well!!!)

Please PIN, SHARE, FACEBOOK and COMMENT like crazy, I appreciate and love all of it!  :)
