Pinterest Wednesday and a Winner!

Today’s Pinterest post is a little different… yesterday I mention I had 1 more “like” to go to get to 50 on my Facebook Page, and would offer a giveaway for every 50 likes….and since it was reached last night, I get to announce a Winner!!  WARNING: This winner has 48 hours to respond to the prize, otherwise a new name will be drawn… so this post is going out at 10:00 am Pacific time, Wednesday the 23rd, so the winner must respond to me by Friday the 25th (my daughter’s 1 year birthday, but that’s besides the point!) at 10:00 am Pacific time!

I’m literally drawing the winner right now… so wait for it….  the winder is:  Ashton Suzette Jackson!

So if you are this winner, or if you know this winner, please get back to me as soon as possible!!  You can email me at leanne@becauseithinkican.com

What are you winning??

I want to make you a custom painted wood sign!!  I have some wood here, the size is 5″x15″ … you get to choose a single word for me to paint on it for you, plus you get to choose the background color out of these choices:  graphite, turquoise, old white, or yellow.

The sign will hang from a hanger of twine, like in this example:

Do you need some inspiration for your single word of choice?  Here’s some pins I’ve pinned to inspire you!

Keep Calm and Carry On

keep calm4

Today is a very big day for me!  I am guest posting on 2 different blogs!!  Today you can find me at Randee’s Organized Chaos, and at My World Made By Hand!  If you have a few minutes, please visit these ladies and check out their blogs, they are both VERY talented!!

Well, my theme for yesterday’s Pinterest Wednesday was Keep Calm, and so I couldn’t wait to show you this…

Keep Calm and Carry On

Isn’t she gorgeous?!  Like I mentioned, she sold even before my show on Thursday night began, and I miss her!  Looking at her was so soothing for me!

I might be making you tired of all my sign tutorials, so if you are new here, here are a couple other great tutorials to check out:

A few details about this one:  I based the board in bright white.  I applied vaseline in the areas I wanted easily distressed.  I followed with a coat of Wythe Blue from Benjamin Moore.  After transferring and painting the words and the crown on, I gave it a good sanding.  the areas I had applied vaseline sanded really well, and blended the white and the turquoise beautifully.  I rough sanded the words to age them a bit.

And Ta-Da!

Do you love it??  I can make more if you are interested!  Find more info on my For Sale Page.

Even though I don’t have it on my wall anymore, I’m still trying to keep this as my motto, especially since my little 4-year-old redhead is being a little more trying than… well, what can I say??  I’ll just say she thinks she is the mother of the house lately.  So yesterday I renewed our membership to the zoo and took the 3 kids there for a few hours.  We had such a wonderful time, like we always do when we get in the fresh air for a while… until the second we got back in the truck and the screaming and tears and fights resumed.  Dear Lord, help me to keep calm and carry on!  Amen.

Let me know what you think, and thank you so much for reading!!

Turquoise Twins

Well it’s Thursday, and I’m feeling pumped today!! Tonight is our elementary school’s Ladies Night Fundraiser, where I am having a vendor table! With my past businesses I swore I would never have a vendor table again, but this was cheap enough, and for a good cause, and I’m excited to get my stuff out there, and see what the feedback is!

And to celebrate, I’m finally showing you a project! I know, it’s been awhile!! So I’m showing you a little favorite of mine, and I don’t think they’ll be sticking around for long… Meet the Turquoise Twins!

The Turquoise Twins!

The one on your left is a magnetic board, and the one on your right is a chicken wire bulletin board!

I actually have a pretty good collection of my how-I-did-it, so here we go!

This was them "before" and I picked them up on Half-Off day at a local thrift store for a couple of dollars each...

a couple close-ups of the frames before...

before...

after taking the frames apart, I gave them 2 coats of Wythe Blue, from Benjamin Moore.... once the paint dried, I distressed them to show some of the gold from underneath... then it was time for staining...

I had read about this technique online somewhere... I am SO sorry I don't remember where!... apply stain to the project (I used dark walnut from Minwax), and smear with a rag and baby oil! It gave a very nice stained darkness to the turquoise...

...here's a photo showing the difference... the bottom one has been stained, the top has not... very subtle, but just enough.

next, for the chicken wire frame, I used foam board as my "base" for my fabric. I bought it from the dollar store, and cut it to the size of the frame...

...placed the foamboard on the fabric I was using, and cut the fabric approximately 2 inches bigger than the foam board...

... so this is a photo with sheet metal for the magnet board... I bought a fairly large size sheet of sheet metal from Home Depot for $27, the price caught my by surprise, but oh well, I was determined, ...I put out a plea for tin snips (to cut the sheet metal) on Facebook, and thanks to friends willing to share their husband's tools :) I was set! ... To attach the fabric to both the sheet metal, and to the foam board, I just wrapped them and hot glued the back side. This project needed work gloves to keep scratches, cuts and burns at bay!...

This is the back of the foam board, with the fabric glued on. For this chicken wire project, I used the tin snips to cut the wire, a little larger then the frame. I wrapped the foam board with the chicken wire, and fitted it into the frame.

... I stapled the chicken wire to the frame with a staple gun (I felt very empowered with this project, using all these tools I've never used before!). After stapling, I trimmed the wire, then taped the edges down with masking tape...

I try to reuse as much of the original item as possible, so I used the mat from the original frame on the back, and was able to push the photo tab holders thingies down to keep it all in place.

And a couple of “after” pictures for you!

The Turquoise Twins!

I’d love to get your feedback, let me know what you think!  If you LOVE them, find them on my For Sale Page!

Thanks so much for reading!!

Now onto today’s Pinteresting Post!

Today is a lot about turquoise, a lot about Easter, and a little about everything else. Turquoise is absolutely one of my happy colors, along with apple green. Do you have happy colors??

I am loving the color combinations in this photo. There are some things I just wouldn’t think of putting together, and this combination would be one of them. I love it.

ahhh… and more turquoise…. I love how beautifully “chippy” this hutch is…

oh, and this… I am pretty sure I will have to make this, maybe this spring?

awww… love the owl too!

the words (in turquoise) is what I imagine my hubby is thinking when laying on the couch looking all sexy like this! ;)

oh, yes, and Easter is coming up soon! I love Easter and everything about it. I love the church services, the hymns, the family get togethers… and yes, the chocolate! I’m hoping to be daring enough this year to do some easter egg decorating with the kids! What is your favorite (and simple) way to decorate eggs?

Whha? rainbow Jello eggs?

Love this wreath… as inspired as I am though, I’m pretty sure I’ll just be hanging up my Super-Store-bought one!

my kids would go nuts for this… a glow-in-the-dark Easter Egg Hunt!

I am very curious about open shelving lately, wondering how that would work in our kitchen… I see it in magazines and on blogs all the time… I haven’t mentioned it to hubby yet, because I’m pretty sure his response would be that besides making sure the shelves always look nice and tidy, wouldn’t the dishes get covered in kitchen grease and daily dust? hmmm, do any of you have them?

this makes me want to jump up and down and squeal “Hubby, we NEED this!!”, although I know he would just roll his eyes at me. :)

Thanks for reading! I love your comments on all of my posts, and I love when you pin my pictures! But remember, for these Pinterest posts, click on the link under the photo, named “source:”, to get you to the original location, and to pin from the original source! Thanks!!

I hope you join me on Pinterest!  I look forward to seeing you there!
